“I am trying to understand if a bad experience happens to the brain in early life, how can we make the brain less sensitive to not affect the person’s future?”
Hongyu Sun is trying to understand how early life experiences affect brain development. His research focuses on this very fast developmental window—within the first two years of life—and looks at how stress or other factors modify the brain and can have long-lasting effects. Sun’s research looks at how bad experiences modify the neural circuits in brain cells that create impaired function and what is possible to convert the process and make the brain less sensitive.
